A copy of current rabies vaccination must be provided by the first day of class.

Dogs need to be in good health, be current with their rabies vaccine and have a health form filled out by their veterinarian.

Dogs must have lived with you for at least six months and be at least 10 months old to begin Therapy Dog Training Classes, and 1 year old to take the Evaluation.

Only certain domesticated animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits and pet birds may become NCTD therapy animals.

You must be at least 12 years old to volunteer with adult supervision (parent, guardian or someone with parent or guardian's written consent), and you should be at least 16 years old to work without an adult.

Prior to undergoing the Therapy Dog Evaluation, new volunteer teams are required to take the Handler's Class and the Therapy Dog Training Class (TDTC).

Walk on loose leash (no pulling handler, or dragging behind).

Your dog must have passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test which highlights the most basic of obedience skills.
